Our founding herd (2014) of American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) registered Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats came from stock bred by Grasse Acres in Northern Door County, WI, which is known for producing goats with excellence in dairy quality, temperament and conformation. These goats make great milking, show or pet goats for families or microfarms.
Herd Management
To minimize parasite loads, thus reducing the frequencies of and needs for deworming our goats, we employ a rotational grazing strategy and allow our goats to forage on browse and pasture. When not on pasture (during winter or inclement weather) we feed our herd hay grown locally in Door County. We also purchase from local farmers a whole grain mix of oats, wheat and barley, which we use to supplement our does in milk.
Biosecurity
We test our herd (adult does and bucks) annually for CAE, CL, Johnnes, Brucellosis, and Q-Fever to help ensure that animals that leave our farm are as healthy as possible. Because we are working hard to maintain a healthy herd, we have implemented the following biosecurity measures: 1) goats sold and removed from the farm may not return, 2) visitors may be asked to wear shoes not previously worn around other farms or to clean the soles with disinfectants. Goats that leave our farm are deemed to be in good health and our farm cannot be held responsible for health related issues that may result from moving stresses or management implemented once at their new farms.
Kid Reservations
Please contact us to reserve a kid(s). Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis along with a deposit per animal. If we cannot meet a buyers needs (nature has a factor in numbers of kids, male and female, born each year), we will return the deposit, otherwise the deposit is non-refundable. Because goats are social/herd animals, we will only send kids home in pairs/multiples or where there are already other goats living so that they will not endure a lonely life.
Our Commitments to the Buyers
We plan to disbud and neuter/castrate on site. All goats are provided with necessary vaccinations and are dewormed according to need. We also trim hooves as necessary. We plan to primarily dam-raise, however we will spend a lot of time with all the goats to ensure that kids are socialized with people.
